Notes for Sarah H. Phillips
Some sources have her name as Sarah H. Phillips, others say Sarah Jane Phillips. I don't know which is right.
Census Notes for James B. & Sarah H. (Family)
1850 census of Carroll County, Virginia, 11th district, enumerated 3 Aug, lists as family #200:
James Quesenberry 30, farmer; Sarah, 30; Asa, 12; Ballard, 10; Milly, 8; James C., 7; Elizabeth, 5; Andrew J., 2; Tobias, 1/12. All born in Va.

1860 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Dugspur P.O., enumerated 12 July, lists on p. 62 as family #406/410:
James B. Quisenberry, 42; Sarah, 41; Mildred, 16; James C., 15; Elizabeth, 13; Andrew J., 11; Tobias, 9; Delitha, 8; Eliza J., 4; Thomas W., 3/12. All born in VA.

Note that Mildred, James, and Elizabeth are all listed as two years younger than one would expect from the 1850 census. I am assuming that the ages from 1850 are more reliable. The next household is headed by their son Asa, recorded as 22.

1870 census of Carroll Co., Virginia, Pine Creek district, Hillsville P.O., p. 128, lists as family #225/231:
Quesenberry, Sarah, 52, keeping house; A. J., 22, labors on farm; Tobias, 20; Eliza Jane, 16; Telita, 14; Thomas W., 9. All born in Va.

Notice that Eliza Jane and Delitha/Telita have switched places in the birth order! Since later census listings for Delitha are more consistent with the younger age (she was listed as 23 in 1880), and since Eliza Jane’s death record says she was 16 in 1871, I am tentatively going to assume that the 1870 birth order is correct, and that Delitha was recorded very incorrectly in 1860.
