Notes for George Phillips
Birth of George's five children (as well as death of Frances) recorded in the parish register of North Farnham, Richmond Co., Virginia. The family apparently moved to Pittsyvlania Co., VA, sometime between 1760 and 1768. See p. 2, Genealogy of William Tobias Phillips, by Elza Cox, 1989.
Notes for Hannah [Phillips]
Elza Cox, in The Genealogy of William Tobias Phillips, p. 2, lists George's wife as Hannah Goad, daughter of Abraham Goad II & his wife Joannah. But that is based on a family tradition with no documentation, and is inconsistent with the records. North Farnham parish records do list the name of George's wife as Hannah in their children's christenings, but do not mention her maiden name.

Elza Cox lists Hannah's date of birth as 7 Apr 1732, but that is the birthdate for Hannah Goad the daughter of John and Catherine Goad (based on parish birth records), who is listed in her father's 1771 will as Hannah Bennett.

Hannah the daughter of Abraham II and Joannah was probably born ca 1742 (judging by the order she was listed in her father's will and known birthdates of her siblings), making her too young to be the mother of George's children, and moreover was named in Abraham’s will written in 1779 as Hannah Burdett. Since George Phillips' wife Hannah apparently predeceased him (her last child was born in 1760, and George remarried to Mary Jennings in 1768), she would not be likely to be either of the above two candidate Hannah Goads, both of whom were still living in the 1770's. (There is some slim chance that George & Hannah were divorced and Hannah remarried, but it seems much more likely that the family tradition is simply in error, being based ultimately on nothing more solid than that Hannah was a name which runs in the Goad family.)
