Notes for Thomas O. Pettit
From pension appplication dated April 17 1820, Thomas Pettit, age 56 and living in Shelby Co., Ky, stated that he enlisted in Frederick Co., Maryland about April 1779 as a private in Capt. Lynn's Co. under Maj. Roxburgh, that he was at the battles of Guilford and Eutaw Springs and the siege of Yorktown and present at the surrender of Cornwallis, that he was discharged 15 Nov 1783, and that at the time of application he had two grown sons, one married and moved to another county (this would be Simon, who was in Henry Co.), one in the army (this would be O'Bannon.)
An index of recipients of Revolutionary War pensions in Kentucky lists Thomas Petit of Shelby Co., Ky, age 70 (in 1934 when the survey was taken), received $60 on 29 Nov 1821 as pension for service in the Revolutionary War, on the Maryland line.
His widow's application for dependent's benefits, dated 20 June 1845, at which time she was 75 and living in Henry Co., Ky, stated that Thomas died 28 Feb 1845, and enclosed a court clerk's transcript from a marriage bond showing that they were married in Nov 1788 in Harrison Co., Virginia. She is listed in the bond as Sarah Cloot or Clutter, daughter of Simeon Cloot or Clutter.

1810 census of Shelby Co., KY, p. 233, lists family of:
Thomas Pettitt, 1 m 10-15, 1 m > 45, 1 f < 10, 1 f 16-25, 1 f 26-45.
(If the later censuses were correct, Simon would be 17 in 1810, and O'Bannon would be 3, so it is not apparent who the male 10-15 is, or where Simon and O'Bannon are. Maybe they lied about Simon's age to keep him out of the army for a few years?)

Can't find Thomas or his son Simon in 1830, in Shelby or Henry. They are probably together somewhere. They may have simply been misindexed.
