Notes for Alva L. Hall
The Kentucky Delayed Birth Registrations index (covers births from 1892 to 1910 that were registered after 1911) lists Alvie L Hall, born 27 Mar 1908 in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Julietta Baldrid.

The Kentucky death index lists Alvie L. Hall, age 59, died 30 Dec 1967 in Boyd Co., residence Ohio.

The SSDI lists Alvie Hall, born 27 Mar 1908, died Dec 1967, last residence South Point, Lawrence Co., Ohio, SSN issued in Ohio before 1951.

The family group for Powell Hall and Ettie Baldridge that I got from Nancy Rose (wife of Ettie’s grandson Thomas Rose, son of Grace Jewell Hall) gave Alva’s dates as 9 March 1908 to 24 Dec 1968, and said that he died in Shelby, Ohio. But I can find no record to fit those dates (the Ohio death database is pretty thorough for that period), and no other Alva or Alvie Hall who might fit the two death records above. (There were some other Alva Halls in Kentucky and Ohio born 1907 to 1911, but none in March, none with a middle initial L, and they all have matching death records of other dates.)

Also, since Ethel was buried in South Point, Ohio, even though she was living in Flatwoods Kentucky at the time of her death, it seems very likely to be her husband. So most likely someone who was supplying dates to Nancy was working off memory rather than written records, and misremembered.
Notes for Ethel Petitt
Her obituary reported “Ethel Hall, 95, of Flatwoods, died Monday, Feb. 2 at Oakmont Manor in Flatwoods.

Mrs. Hall was born Aug. 7, 1908 in Salt Lick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvie Hall.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Storms Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Ironton. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point.”
Notes for Alva L. & Ethel (Family)
Rowan Co. marriage Book 21, p. 89, records marriage on 24 Dec 1926 of Alvie Hall, 19, residence Shelby, Ohio, s/o Powell & Ettie Hall, to Ethel Petitt, 17, d/o Willie & Mollie Petitt, at Morehead by W. T. Hall, witnesses Emma Collins and Clara Caudill.
Census
I cannot find Ethel or Marie in the 1930 census. The 1930 census was taken in April, and the birth of their daughter Marie was recorded in Bath Co. in March, so that would be a good bet for where they were living, but they are not recorded there, or anywhere else in Kentucky that I can find.

Alva was living in Scioto Co., Ohio with his mother’s parents, listed as Alva L., grandson, 23, married, age at first marriage 19, laborer on farm, b. Ky Ky Ky.
