Notes for James O. Pettit
Will of James O. Pettit, dated 9 June 1853, probated 11 July 1853, mentions: my wife (not named), my two children Sarah Randolph Pettit and Mary Jane Pettit. Executors my friends Nathaniel Berry and Alexander E. Prewitt.

"Our Family of Simmons", p. 7, says "Nathaniel Pettit and Martha Clifford were married March 9, 1818. Their son, James O. Pettit (died June 17, 1853) and Mary Ann Frances Blackwell (died Sept. 19, 1857) were married January 28, 1849." The marriage year is probably in error, since James and Mary Frances had daughters aged 4 and 2 in 1850, but it is possible that Sarah is the daughter of a previous marriage.

Fayette Co. records list James O. Pettit as the owner of a slave named Martha who was born in June 1852.
Census Notes for James O. & Mary Ann Frances (Family)
1850 census of Fayette Co., Ky, p. 224 (stamped)/446 (film), lists as family #450:

James and Mary Frances both died young. In 1860 their daughters Sarah and Mary Jane are listed in Clark Co., Ky, with their maternal grandfather Armstead Blackwell, as age 13 and 12.
