Notes for Bluford Pettit
According to Steve Navaro’s notes38, some data on Bluford's family taken from the Ky Society of DAR - Bible Records, Volume 2.

I have a bit of skepticism that the Bluford Pettit of Kenton and Pendleton counties is in fact the same Bluford Pettit who was the son of Samuel Pettit and Nancy Sharp, since there was a large Pettit clan in the northern counties who were descendants of Amos Pettit. But there was no other Bluford Pettit (or any spelling variation) in the 1850 census of Kentucky, and there were many people who migrated between Bath and Pendleton counties. And Bluford and Matilda did name their first son Samuel.

Census Notes for Bluford & Matilda Jane (Family)
1870 census of Kenton Co., Ky, Stephenson precinct., Morning View P.O., enumerated 20 July, lists on p. 334 as family #263:
Pettit, Bluford, 35, farm laborer; Matilda, 38; Francis, 13; Samuel, 10; Jackson K., 5; George E., 2. Matilda born in Ohio, others in Ky. (Francis’s surname should have been listed as Mullins, but was not. According to Steve Navaro, "Jackson" should be Zacheus, but I looked at the census, and I can't read it that way. There were no Z's in that section to compare it to, but there were lots of J's, and it looked just like them. Perhaps the enumerator misheard the name.)

1880 census of Pendleton Co., Ky, Grassy Creek precinct, district 5, enumerated 24 June, lists on p. 44 as family $326/332:
Pettit, Bluford, 37, farmer, b. Ky Ky Ky; Jane, 48, wife, b. Ohio Ohio Ohio; Samuel, 18, son; Zachariah, 16, son; Elmer, 12, son; James, 8, son; Mullins, Frank, 23, stepson. All children (including Frank) born Ky Ky Oh. Bluford's age is way off. He was really 45.
