Be careful not to confuse him with the Silas Caudill, born exactly one year later in Letcher Co., son of David K. Caudill and Elizabeth Fields.
His death certificate records Silas E. Caudill, age 74 years 3 months 19 days, born 19 April 1876 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 7 April 1950 in Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, occupation farm owner, married, father Henry B. Caudill, mother’s maiden name Christean Black, informant Mrs. Silas Caudill, cause of death coronary occlusion due to arteriosclerosis, burial in Poplar Grove Cemetery.

Notes for Amanda Ellen Jones
Her gravestone says that she was born 22 May 1878, but she was not listed with her parents on the 1880 census, and she was listed as 28 in 1910. The birthdate of 22 May 1881 is from her granddaughter, Carrie E. (Caudill) Kendall.

Rowan Co. marriage register, Bk A, p. 106, lists Silas E. Caudill m. Amanda Ellen Jones on 16 Dec 1896, at James Jones, witnesses David Black, Jno Black, by F. M. Crisp.
Phil McBrayer's interview notes say that Amanda Jones d/o Marion Jones married "Dr. Silas Caudill". But Carrie (Caudill) Kendall, the daughter of Silas and Amanda, says that her mother's parents were James Wm. Jones and Sarah Ann Clark. She should know since they are her own grandparents. Perhaps Marion Jones (who married Minnie Crawford) also had a daughter named Amanda, but more likely whoever Phil was interviewing was less closely related and just had the wrong parents for Amanda.
