His birthdate as shown on his gravestone conflicts with that shown on the stone of his sister Vina. At least one of them must be wrong.

Index to Kentucky Death Records lists Rena Sloan, d. 11 Dec 1961, age 66, in Rowan Co., certificate Vol 57, #28020.

In the 1910 census she was listed as a daughter-in-law, age 14, with the family of Henry Kegley and Cloe Conn.

Rowan Co. marriage book 8, p. 46 records marriage on 27 Mar 1913 of Samuel Sloan, 25, s/o Buck & T. N. Sloan, to Reeny Trent, 17, d/o L. D. & Mary Trent, at L. D. Trent's by Harvey Trent, witnesses S. N. Matthews and J. F. Adkins. (It is recorded as a first marriage for both spouses, even though it is really Rena's second. It also says that both Sam and Rena were born in Rowan Co., but Sam was probably really born in Magoffin County.)

There is a consent note attached that reads:

“To the county clerk of Rowan Co this is to certify that we have concented for our daughter Reeny Trent and Sam Slone to have marrige licens given under our hand this 26th day of March 1913
L. D. Trent
& Mary Trent
Witness J. H. Trent”

1920 census of Rowan Co., Ky, district #3, records as family #19:
Slone, Sam, 33; Rena, 24; Ethyl, 6; Syntha, 3 11/12; Ada, 5/12. All born in Ky.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 23 April, lists on p. 12B as family #212/222:
Sloan, Sam, farmer, 42, age at first marriage 27; Rena, wife, 36, age at first marriage 18; Ethel, dau, 15; Mintha, dau, 13; Ada, dau, 10; Dall, son, 7; Thelma, dau, 4 6/12; Elza E., son, 2 6/12. Rena’s father born in Virginia, all others in Ky.
