Her obituary in the Morehead News of Tuesday, May 28, 1996 reported “Mamie Sturgill Christian, 93, of 1021 E. Main St., Morehead, died Monday morning, May 27, [1996] at her residence.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1902 in Johnson County to the late Miles and Nancy Ellen Stapleton Sturgill. She was a homemaker and a member of the Old Paint Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Johnson County.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Christian, on Dec. 22, 1977.
Surviving are her five sons, Verner Christian of Miamisburg, Ohio, Carl Christian of London, Ralph Christian of Jacksboro, Tenn., Claude Christian of Ashland and Jimmy Christian of Franklin, Ohio; two daughters, Bernice Gulley and Marie Gully both of Morehead; a sister, Malta Christian of Meridian, Miss. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Dean and Dr. Wayne W. Enderle officiating with burial at the Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers: David Christian, Mark Gulley, Matthew Gulley, Rick Waltz, Rick Click, Michael Click, Stephen Click, Wilbur Christian, Carl Edward Gulley, Michael Gulley, John Christian, L. J. Caskey and Alfrey "Sonny" Caskey.”
