Notes for Harvey ("Harve") Trent
Harve was raised by his grandparents. He was listed in the 1900 census as Harve Trent, son, age 6, and in the 1910 census as Harve Fraley, grandson, age 15. I am pretty sure that he was a son of their daughter Ellen, who was recorded in the 1900 census as the mother of 3 children, 2 living, although only one (Mollie) was living with her and her third husband Mace Fraley.
He may be the son of Ellen and her first husband, Thomas Fraley, whom she married in 1891. I do not know if that marriage ended in divorce or if Thomas died. If the January 1894 birthdate is correct, he was would have been conceived around April 1893. Ellen married Tobias Kegley in Sep 1893, and was interestingly listed on the marriage record as Ellen Trent, not Ellen Fraley. But it is unlikely that Harve is a son of Tobias, or he would have been listed as a Kegley in at least some records. He is also not likely to be a son of Mace Fraley, because the obituary of Ellen and Mace’s daughter Tye mentioned a surviving half-brother Harve. So the most likely situations are that he was either a son of Thomas Fraley, and took the name Trent because his grandparents raised him, or else that he was a child of Ellen by someone she did not marry. There was some gossip that Ellen bore a child out-of-wedlock by her father’s brother Lorenzo Dow Trent, but I do not know if it was true. Even if so, it may have been the child who died before 1900, when she was listed as the mother of 3 children, 2 living.
His WWI Draft Registration card, issued in 1917/1918 (the images on Ancestry do not show the side of the card that has the date it was filed), say Harvey E. Trent, age 23, residence Elliottville, Ky, born 23 Jan 1894 in Rowan Co., Ky, occupation farmer, self-employed,married, supporting a wife and one child.
Index to Kentucky Death Records lists Harvey Trent, d. 22 Sep 1973, age 79, in Rowan Co., certificate Vol 55, #27035.
Social Security Death index lists Harve Trent, b. 23 Jan 1894, d. Sep 1973, SSN 403-01-3831 issued in KY, last residence in Morehead, KY.
