His death certificate records Billie Petitt, age 1 year 3 months 24 days, born 3 Nov 1935 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 27 Feb 1936 in Bath Co., Ky, residence Rowan Co., Ky, father Harlan Petitt born in Rowan Co., Ky, mother’s maiden name Ollie Vanlandingham, born in Bath Co., Ky, informant Willie Petitt, Salt Lick, Ky, burial in Polksville Cem.
The medical statement is fairly long and says “I first saw and examined this child at about 9:39 pm Feb 27/36 and it was dead then. I was told child died on way to my office and in Bath Co. Ky. Judging from history given me this child had swallowed kerosine about 3 to 3 and 1/2 hours before I saw it however its body was still warm. As I understand and believe it got this kerosine without its mother’s knowledge or intent, so as I see it it is an accidental death. Dr. C. T. Jones, Salt Lick, Ky.”
Note that the reported age and birthdate are inconsistent: a child born on 3 Nov 1935 would be only 3 months old in February 1936.
