Notes for Martin Fraley
Attribution as a son of James Fraley and Luzanna Steagall is based on the fact that in the 1900 census of Carter Co. he is living next door to John W. Fraley and Thomas Fraley, and that in 1910 Martin and Minnie’s daughter Anna was living with that same John, listed as a niece. John W. and Thomas of Carter Co. are both listed by Fraley family researchers as sons of James and Luzanna.
Notes for Minnie Martin Clark
Dates of birth and death are from her gravestone, which lists her name as Minnie M. Fraley. There are no other Fraleys in this cemetery.

Identification as the daughter of Samuel F. Clark is circumstantial, based mostly on the fact that Samuel signed her marriage bond surety. She does not, however, appear with the Samuel Clark family in the 1880 census. Nor can I find any other Minnie (or Minerva) Clark of the right age.

The other Clarks in the cemetery where she is buried are Henry “Amos” Clark (b. 1878), his wife Hulda, and several of their children. Henry Amos was a son of Samuel F. Clark, according to the 1900 census, but was also not listed with the Samuel Clark family in the 1880 census, and also not listed with any other family in the 1880 census! So if Clark is really Minnie’s maiden name, then she was probably whereever Amos was in 1880.
Notes for Martin & Minnie Martin (Family)
Rowan Co. marriage register A, p. 78, lists marriage of Martain Fraley and Mini M. Clark on 29 Jul 1893. The marriage is also listed in license book 2, p. 158, as Martain Fraley and Minie Martain Clark on 28 July 1893, marriage performed at John Petit’s by C. C. Tusey, bond surety by Samuel F. Clark.

John Pettit, at whose house the wedding was performed, was married to Samuel F. Clark's daughter Malissie.

This is the only record that shows Minnie’s middle name; other records just say Minnie M. Clark or Minnie M. Fraley.

One possibility is that Martin is not Minnie’s middle name, but rather her maiden name, and that she was previously married to a Clark. If so, it would be very likely to be Samuel F. Clark’s son William, who was born about 1872-1874, and whom I have no record of after 1880.

There is a Minnie M. Martin age 2 in the 1880 census of Ashland, Boyd Co., Ky, daughter of George W. Martin and his wife Susan Dalton, but there is no evidence that that Martin family had any connections to Rowan or Elliott Co.
