Her obituary reported “SHELBY -- Esther J. Swanger, 87, of Marvin Ave., died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at home.
She was born July 8, 1920, in Morehead, Ky. the daughter of the late John William and Rosa (Crose) Kegley. Esther was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, crocheting and playing solitaire. She loved playing the organ and singing.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kenneth W. Swanger, whom she wed on Aug. 22, 1937; three sons, James L. and Beverly Swanger of Shelby, Charles W. and Lorraine J. Swanger of Mansfield, Douglas E. and Lorraine R. Swanger of Mifflin; a daughter, Marilyn Dosier of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Susan Swanger of Shelby; three sisters, Donna and Donald Kiser of Shelby, Della and Sherlin Horn of Shelby, Freida Chaffin of West Virginia; three brothers, Earl Kegley of Shelby, Hollie and Diane Kegley of Virginia, Jim and Jeri Kegley of Virginia; a sister- in-law, Wanda Kegley of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth L. "Larry" Swanger in 2007; a grandson, John W. Swanger in 2008; three brothers, John Kegley, Harley Dexter Kegley, Norman Kegley; and three sisters, Zenith Adkins, Mary Lou Kegley, Audra Kegley.
Friends may call on Tuesday, July 1, 2008, from 5-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. O. Douglas Tackett officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby.”
