Census Notes for Benjamin Royse
1860 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 8 June, lists on pp. 11-12 as family #80:
Royce, Benjamin, 58, farmer; Barbary, 45, housewife; Campbell, 17; James, 13; Fleming, 11; Benjamin, 6; Martha J., 4. All born in Kentucky.

The three older sons are from Benjamin’s marriage to Elizabeth Lee.

1870 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Christy Creek precinct, enumerated 11 June, lists on p. 11 as family #68:
Royse, Benjamin, 69, farmer; Barbara, 56; Nancy, 31; Frankie, 22 (f); Benjamin, 16; Jane, 14. All born in Ky.
(Frankie was listed as 6 in 1850, so she should be about 26 here. I have not found her in the 1860 census.)

In 1880 he was listed in Rowan Co. as Benjamin Royse, age 78, father, with the family of his son Fleming.
Notes for Barbary A. Jones
I have not been able to find any Barbara/Barbary Jones in her 30’s in the 1850 census of Kentucky who could be this Barbara. (There was Barbara (nee Green) Jones age 34, wife of Nathaniel Ralls Jones, in Bath Co., but she continued having children with N. R. Jones until 1860. There was also a Barbary Jones b. ca 1816 wife of Henry Jones in Bullitt Co., but she also was still listed with Henry in 1860.)

Even though Barbary was about 37 at the time of her marriage, it is according to the birth records of their son Isaac and daughter Martha her maiden name.

One possibilty is that she was previously married, but not to a Jones, and for some reason was recorded on her marriage record to Benjamin under her maiden name instead of her prior married name. But that opens up rather too many possibilities to examine them all in detail. The other possibilty is that she was just skipped. It happens rather more than we would like.
