Census Notes for Frances Susan Mays
1880 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Newfoundland precinct, enumerated 16 June, lists on p. 18 as family #127:
Mays, Frances, 42, tramp, single, keeping house; Pemberton G., 11, son; Arizona, 8, dau; Lewis C., 4, son.

The “keeping house” is in the occupation column. The “tramp” is in the relationship column, where “head” would normally go, although this census taker left it blank for most heads of household. Pemberton did not appear with Francis in the 1870 census, so he may really only be 10 or even 9.
