Notes for Marena Myers (?)
In the 1850 census, she is living in Fleming Co. with Christopher Myers and Elizabeth Alfrey, listed as Marenia Bradshaw, and appears to be the mother of Mahala Bradshaw age 8 and Josephine Bradshaw age 5. I am uncertain whether this indicates a previous marriage to a Bradshaw, or whether the two girls were born out-of-wedlock.

Her daughter Mahala’s death certificate, for which Mahala’s son Marcus Caleb Sorrell was the informant, records Mahala’s parents as David Bradshaw and Marena Myers.

It could be that this represents a confusion of surnames between David Myers and Marena Bradshaw. Or perhaps it is correct, and Myers was really Marena’s maiden name, and she married first David Bradshaw and second David Myers. I am tentatively entering it that way, but with question marks. David Myers is too young to be Mahala’s father, though, as he was only 20 in 1850.

If Myers is Marena’s maiden name, it is possible that she is the daughter of Christopher Myers and Elizabeth Alfrey, and David Myers is not their son, which would explain why she was living with them in 1850. David might instead be the son of Joseph Myers and Rachel Alfrey, with whom he was living in the 1850 census. But he was listed at the end with his surname repeated, which usually indicates a non-child relationship. And nearly all secondary sources record David’s parents as Christopher and Elizabeth, perhaps based on will or estate records.
