Notes for Lemuel Washington ("Wash") Johnson
Floyd Co., Ky birth records list Lemuel W. Johnson, born 1 Dec 1859 in Floyd Co., father Lemuel Johnson, mother’s maiden name Camely Porter.

From the 1860 and 1870 censuses, and the death certificates of his siblings Sarah, William P., and John Ellliott, his father’s name was also Lemuel Johnson, and his mother was Camilla Mahala Porter, both born in Virginia.

According to Omer Trent, a cousin to "Wash's" daughter-in-law, Martha Conn Johnson, and other relatives by marriage, the two oldest sons of Wash put a contract out on him, so to speak, and had him killed. Apparently the elder Johnson was a local moneylender and the two oldest boys got greedy. They sent a couple of people known to Wash to have dinner with him and after they had eaten and they went outside they killed him and made it look like a robbery. Again according to Omer, Johnnie Johnson had to be physically restrained from killing his brothers, George and Marion, when he discovered that they had been involved in the death of their father. (I am not sure I believe all this. Omer may have been telling tall tales. He seems to have a vivid imagination.)

I cannot find a death record for Lemuel to check any of this against.

Wash’s son Johnnie was the husband of Martha Conn. Johnnie's sister Pearl married Martha's brother Robert and another sister, Tennessee Johnson married Mitchell Black, a brother to Martha's sister Lula's husband Pressie Black.
Notes for Lemuel Washington ("Wash") & Mary Elizabeth (Family)
I cannot find either Wash or Lizzie in the Kentucky death records, by any name variation, yet they were both alive in 1920, so they died after state level death recording began in Ky. I would ordinarily conclude that meant they most likely died in another state, but the story Omer Trent told sure made it sound like Wash died locally.

(I would really like to find Mary Elizabeth’s death record, so that I could see if she is descended from any of the Bath Co. McCarty’s that I am related to through my Sorrell, Sharp, McClain or Riddle lines, all of which had early marriages to McCarty men. Although there is a large possibility that even if it were found, it would list her parents as unknown.)
