Her obituary as printed in the Morehead News ran “Mrs. Bessie Kidd Black of Clearfield, age 77, died Friday, Jan. 17, [1992] at her residence. Born Nov. 11, 1914 in Morgan County, she was the daughter of the late Saul and Allie Fair Winkleman Kidd. Mrs. Black was a member of the Slab Camp Christian Church. Her husband, Lemuel Washington Black preceded her in death on March 16, 1988. Survivors include three sons, Ivis Black and Lemuel W. Black, both of Morehead, and Wayne Black of Clearfield. Two daughters, Leona Jones of Morgantown, N.C., and Pauline Jones of Clearfield. One brother, Barry Kidd of Morehead and 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Norman Kidd and Luke Kidd and one sister, Pearlie Gibbs. Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 20, 1992 at the Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Rev. Carlios Bowman and Rev. Davis Kidd officiating. Burial was in the McClain Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tim Black, Mike Black, James Jones, Tony Jones, Marvin Hitch, Danny Perry, Neil Conley, Kevin Litton, Jack Pennington and Theodore Wagner.”
