Notes for Vernard McClain
The Kentucky birth index lists Vernard McLaine, born 16 Aug 1926 in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Nancy Black.

His obituary in the Rowan County News (unfortunately, I didn't copy down the date) says "Vernard McClain, 37, a Rowan County native, died Saturday in Lexington. McClain was born Aug. 16, 1926, a son of the late Lester McClain and Mrs. Nancy Black McClain. In addition to the mother, he is survived by six children, Jerry, Vernard Jr., Gary, Charlotte, Betty and Karon McClain, all of Bloomingdale, Ind. Six brothers also survive. They are: Orville McClain, Clearfield; Ersel McClain, Madison, W. Va.; Chester McClain, Yorktown, Ind; and Leslie, Avery and Virgil McClain, all of Shelby, Oh. Funeral services were held Monday in the Slab Camp Christian Church. Rev. Zora Trent and Rev. Bennie Baldridge officiated. Burial was in the McClain Cemetery under the direction of Stucky Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Lindon Jones, Wayne Black, Clayton Goodman, James McClain, Avery Stidom, and Gene McClain." (Since there is no mention of his wife, either as a survivor or as having preceded him in death, I suspect they may have divorced.)
