Notes for Elijah Granville Caudill
His death certificate (Vol. 64, #31687) states Elijah Caudill, age 78 years 7 mos 7 days, died 22 Feb 1915 in Rowan Co., cause of death burned to death, informant Robert Manning. The parent fields say “don’t know”.

Be careful not to confuse him with Elijah Green Dehart born 3 Dec 1844, son of Electious Dehart and Sarah Madden.
Notes for Nancy Jane Johnson
Her death certificate states Nancy Jane Caudill, age 78 years 2 mos 13 days, died 22 Feb 1915 in Rowan Co., cause of death burned to death, informant Robert Manning. Name of father “Harper”, name of mother unknown.

There is no Harper Johnson in the Kentucky censuses of the right generation, nor any Johnson in the 1850 census with an initial H and a daughter Nancy or Jane. Since the informant Robert Manning did not know the names of Nancy’s mother nor either of Elijah’s parents, it is probable that he intended Harper as the surname of Nancy’s father, not as his given name, and that he was mistaken.

There are too many possible Nancy Johnsons age 12 or 13 in the 1850 census of Kentucky to be able to trace them all forward and see which one married Elijah.
Notes for Elijah Granville & Nancy Jane (Family)
Elijah and Nancy died together in a house fire, and are buried in a joint coffin.
