Notes for Daniel D. Epperhart
Usually known as D. D. Epperhart, he was the Examining Clerk who took the hearing notes that I’ve transcribed in my Isaac Hall Murder Case article.
Notes for Daniel D. & Rutha (Family)
Morgan Co. marriage book lists license issued to Daniel D. Epperhart and Ruth Nickell on 20 Nov 1856, no return. Rowan Co. marriage report sent to the state auditor lists marriage on 4 Dec 1856 of Daniel D. Epperhart, age 24, born Virginia, to Ruthy Nickells, 22, born Morgan Co.
Census
I cannot find this family in the 1860 census.

In 1870 the recently widowed Daniel was listed in Mason Co., Ky, with the family of Hezekiah McDaniel, as Daniel Epperhart, 37, carpenter, born in Kentucky. (The birthplace is incorrect.)

Daniel and Rutha’s children John and Anna are in Rowan Co. with the family of Fowler Nickell, Rutha’s uncle, listed as John Epperheart age 11 and Annie Epperheart age 2. I have not found William, Malinda Alice, or Sarah Margaret, who should have been respectively 9, 7 and 5. (I do not know if William survived infancy, but Alice and Maggie lived to adulthood.) Most likely they were being shuffled around between relatives, causing them to be missed.

1880 census of Rowan Co., Kentucky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 13 as family #110:
D. D. Epperhart, 47, carpenter, b. Va Pa Va; Amdey, 30, wife, school teacher, b. Ky Ky Ky; Anna D., 11, dau, Ky Va Ky.
