Notes for James White
There are two death certificates filed for him. The first one is only partially filled out. It is certificate no 6194 in book 19, and records James White, age 77, date and place of birth blank, married, farmer, father Georg White, mother’s maiden nane Neley Nickless, birthplaces not known, cause of death heart dropsey, date of death blank, medical attendance from Feb 21, 1922 to Mar 1, 1920, last seen alive by physician Feb 29, 1920 (physician’s section not signed), cause of death heart dropsy, informant J. W. Suetman, Elliottville, Ky, burial Mar 2, 1920, place not recorded, no filing date, no registrar’s stamp.

The second one, certificate no 9976 in book 39, records James White, age about 77, birthdate unknown, born in Ky, died what appears to say Mar 7, 1920 in Rowan Co., married, farmer, father George White, mother’s maiden name Nellie Nickels, both born in Ky, cause of death heart dropsy, attended by S. J. Porter (signed) on Feb 4, 1920, informant Mote White, Vale, Ky, burial in White Cem, Vale, Ky on 3-2-1920, filed 4-2-1920, signed by registrar E. A. Porter.

Considering the burial date, the date of death is probably really meant to be 1 March instead of 7 March, wth an unusually exuberant cap on the 1.
Notes for Nancy J. Thacker
Ruth J. White gives the name of James White’s wife as Nancy Thacker Parker.

Her death certificate records Nancy White, age 72 years 8 months 9 days, born 2 June 1849 in Va, died 11 Feb 1922 in Rowan Co., Ky, widow, father Robert Thacker, mother’s maiden name Eliza Dowel, birthplaces unknown, cause of death Bright’s Disease, informant Amanda Tussey, Vale, Ky, burial in Nickell Cem, Elliottville, Ky.

(Amanda is Nancy’s daughter by her first husband James E. Parker.)
Census Notes for James & Nancy J. (Family)
1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown precinct, enumerated 2 June, lists on p. 2A as family #30:
White, James, 54, b. Jan 1846, Ky Ky Ky, farmer, married 34 years; Nancy J., wife, 51, b. June 1848, Va Va Va, married 34 years, mother of 9 children, 7 living; Mote, son, 19, b. May 1881, Ky Ky Ky; Parker, Ed, son, 19, b. Feb 1881, Ky Va Ky; Harris, Manda, dau, 22, b. June 1877, Ky Va Ky, married 4 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; Bessie L., dau, 3, b. June 1896, Ky Ky Ky; Allie B., son, 2, b. Apr 1898, Ky Ky Ky; White, Eli, son, 24, b. Dec 1875, Ky Ky Ky.

The number of years married has apparently been misinterpreted to mean the number of years since the first marriage rather than the current one. Ed Parker and Manda Harris are both children of Nancy and her first husband James Parker, so their birthplaces should really be recorded as Ky Ky Va rather than Ky Va Ky. Eli White is a son of James White and his first wife Mary Emma Day. Apparently Mote is as well, since he is recorded as almost the same age as Ed Parker. (His WW I draft card gives his birthdate as May 1882, which may be correct, but even so, it is very unlikely that he and Ed would be listed here as the same age if Nancy was the mother of both of them.)

The next household is headed by Nancy’s son Thornton Parker, age 26.

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hogtown precinct, enumerated 16 April, lists on p. 2A as family #25:
White, James, 67, b. Ky Ky Ky, farmer; Nancy, wife, 60, second marriage for both, married 25 years, mother of 9 children, 7 living.
