Her obituary in the Sedalia Democrat reported

“Lela Pearl Craig, 82, of Sedalia, died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at Rest Haven Convalescent and Retirement Home.

She was born March 15, 1925, in Morehead Ky., a daughter of Oliver and Rachael Mauk Lambert. On Nov. 11, 1945, in Ohio, she was married to Leroy Craig, who died in 1992.

During her youth, she attended school and helped work the family tobacco farm. She was raised a Southern Baptist and both her grandfather and father were lay ministers. At 17 she moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she was a civilian employee at Wright Patterson field. She was an airplane mechanic on B-29s returned from combat in World War II. After her husband’s discharge from the Air Force, the couple moved to Enid, Okla., to help work his family’s dairy and farm. The next year they moved to Texhoma, Texas, where they farmed and ranched until 1974. After their children were raised, the couple sold their farming equipment and bought a camper and traveled six months looking for a place to settle for their retirement. They moved to Sedalia later that year. She worked at Town and Country Shoe Factory for nine years, before she retired. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking.

Surviving are two sons, Randy Craig, and his wife, Phyllis, and Dale Craig, all of Sedalia; two sisters, Iva Stoll, of California, and Opal Black, of Morehead, Ky.; five grandchildren, Cheramy Craig Cornelson, Tracy Craig Keys, Shelby Craig, Tona Keele and Joni Sartain; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Sacred Gardens, with the Rev. James Keys officiating. Pallbearers will be friends and members of the family.”
