Notes for James Freelin Adkins
Dates of birth and death are from his gravestone, which has the inscription James F. Adkins. I cannot find him in the Kentucky death records.
Notes for Martha M. Sparks
Her gravestone in Kegley Cemetery has her name as Martha M. Adkins, with the dates Nov 15, 1885 - Dec 4, 1971.

Curiously, the SSDI has the matching birthdate but a different death date. It records Martha M. Adkins, born 15 Nov 1885, died 15 Jan 1972, last residence Elliottville, Rowan Co., Ky.

The Kentucky death index lists Martha M. Adkins, age 85, died 4 Dec 1971 in Rowan Co., residence same.

Her obituary gives her birthdate as 15 Nov 1886, which is more consistent with the 1900 census, where she was listed as age 12, born Aug 1887.

That obituary, in the Elliott County News of 11 Dec 1971 reported

“MARTHA ADKINS OF ELLIOTTSVILLE DIES

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Adkins, 85, Elliottville, who died Friday, Dec. 3, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Stucky Funeral Home in Morehead by Rev. Clifford Price. Burial was in Kegley Cemetery.

Mrs. Adkins was born Nov. 15, 1886, a daughter of the late Lynn and Rachel (Sparks) Mauk. Her husband, James F. Adkins, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Adkins of Elliottville and Ranzie Adkins of Bloomingsburg, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Trent of Morehead, and Mrs. Hattie Johnson of Elliottville and Mrs. Annie Dillon, address unknown; two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Conley of Olive Hill and Mrs. Alice Crose of Bloomington, Ill., 35 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.”
