His obituary in the Rowan County News of Nov. 31, 1994 reported “Jessie Denton Gregory, 73, of Morgan Fork Road, Clearfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 30, at the St. Claire Medical Centerin Morehead after an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 25, 1921 in Rowan County to the late Eli and Ada Smedley Gregory. He was a member of the Church of God and worked for Lee Clay Products and Morehead Limestone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Austin R. Gregory and Howard Gregory, and two sisters, Hazel Thornsberry and Nannie Wright.

Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Brown Gregory; three sons, Ray Gregory, Donnie Gregory and Bobby Gregory, all of Morehead; two brothers, Clifton Gregory of Shelby, Ohio, and Joseph Medford Gregory of Georgia; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were scheduled for Dec. 3, at 1 p.m., at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, officiated by the Rev. Russell Reynolds and the Rev. Gilbert Quesinberry with burial at the Baldridge Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ray Gregory, Bobby Gregory, Gary Gregory, Brian Stephens, Denver Forman and William Goodman.”
