The Kentucky Birth Index lists Charles C. Gregory born 20 Jan 1926 in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Ada Smedley.
Clifton died only three weeks after his brother Denton. His obituary in the Rowan County News of Dec. 22, 1994 reported “Shelby, Ohio -- Charles Clifton Gregory, 68, of Thrush Avenue, Crestline, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, at his home after an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 20, 1926 in Rowan County to the late Eli and Ada Smedley Gregory. He had been a Shelby resident the majority of his life, moving to Crestline, Ohio in 1978. He was a former employee of AMF and had been employed as a truck driver with Swisher Wood Products for 25 years. He was a member of the Full Gospel Apostolic Church of Crestline. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Jean Gregory in 1952; two brothers, Austin Ray Gregory and Howard C. Gregory, and three sisters, Hazel Burch, Nancy Wright and Lena Fay Gregory.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma Stidam Gregory, whom he wed Aug. 21, 1947; a son, James Danny Gregory of Crestline; three grandsons, Shannon, Jason and Tyler Gregory, all of Crestline; a granddaughter, Danielle Gregory of Crestline; a brother, Joseph M. Gregory of St. Simon Island, Ga.; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were scheduled for Friday, Dec. 23, at Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby, Ohio, officiated by the Reverends Jesse and Ron Herndon with burial at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Crestline. Military services were conducted by the Mansfield Joint Veterans Council.”
