The Kentucky Delayed Birth Registrations index (covers births from 1892 to 1910 that were registered after 1911) lists William E. Gregory, born 30 Nov 1907 in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Mary Blankenship.

His obituary in the Rowan County News of Sept. 24, 1976 reported “Elmer Gregory, 68, Clearfield, died Friday at Daniel Boone Convalescent Center in Morehead, following an extended illness. He was a retired Lee Clay Products Company employee, having worked for the firm 34 years, where he served as a foreman over 21 years.

A native of Rowan County and lifelong resident of Clearfield, he was born Nov. 30, 1907, son of the late John W. and Mary Ellen Blankenship Gregory. He attended the Church of God.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Murl Skaggs Gregory; one son, Sgt. Elmer Douglas Gregory, with the U.S. Air Force; two daughters, Miss Betty Jean Gregory of Clearfield, and Mrs. Charolette Schworer of Covington; one brother, Lester Gregory of Tampa, Fla., five sisters, Mrs. Carmie Jones of Elliottville, and Mrs. Sarah Perkins, Mrs. Dora Johnson, Mrs. Linda Lowe and Mrs. Hattie Sparkman, all of Morehead; four grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Clearfield Tabernacle by the Revs. Scott Griffith and Ted Greene. Burial was in Clearfield Cemetery. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals cared for arrangements.”
