I have no Slone ancestry. This family is in my database mainly to show how Estill Sloan who married my half great aunt Isabelle Petitt is related to the four Sloans who married the four children of Ranze Trent and Mary Pettit (my great-great aunt), and tangentially to show the relationship of Martin Puckett who married my 2C3R Lula Belle Dehart and Hulda Jane Puckett who married my 1C4R, Henry Amos Clark. Then once I had three children of Martin entered, I figured I might as well fill out the family group for the benefit of visitors to my web site.

My main source for the list of their children is Frank Mitchell’s online Sloan database. But he lists Serelda’s birthdate as Jan 1833, and the date of their marriage as 28 Aug 1844, at which time she would have been 11 years old if the birthdate is correct. So most likely at least one of those dates is in error. Since their first known child was born in 1849, I am assuming that a marriage in 1848, when Serelda would be 15, is more likely. (I checked the online Floyd County marriage records, but they are incomplete and do not list this marriage.)

1870 census of Floyd Co., Ky, Precinct #8, lists as household #46:
Slone, Martin, 40; Malina F., 37; Jane, 16; Melvina, 14; Melvin, 11; Buchanan M., 8; Henry T., 4; Martin M., 1/12.

1880 census of Floyd Co., Ky, Prestonburg, enumerated 10 June, lists on p. 18 as family #122/126:
Slone, Martin V., 52, b. Ky Va Va, occupation column blank; Sarilda, 47, wife, b. Ky Va Va; Melvin, 21, son; Buchnan M., 18, son; Henry F., 14, son; Martin M., 7, son; Thomas W., 7, son; Sammie, 3, son. All children born Ky Ky Ky. Coleman, Andrew F., 41, brother-in-law, farmer, b. Va.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hoggtown precinct, enumerated 13 June, lists on p. 10A as family #163/164:
Slone, Martin, 73, b. Jan 1827, Ky Georgia Georgia, farmer; Relda F., wife, 67, b. Jan 1833, married 52 years, mother of 16 children, 8 living; Sam, son, 22, b. Nov 1877; Pig, son, 15, b. July 1884. Relda and both sons born Ky Ky Ky.

The following household is their son Martin Jr. Considering Serilda’s age, it is probable that Pig is a grandson or adopted.
