Census Notes for Isaac Newton Hardin
In the 1850 census, he was listed age 14 in Morgan Co. household #264 with the family of Isaac Hardin Sr. (age 46) and Nancy Crose, but after the list of their children (which included Isaac Jr. age 3.) He is probably their nephew, as Isaac Sr. seems too young to be his grandfather.

The only other Hardin family nearby was that of Samuel Hardin age 48 with wife Leodica age 27 (Dicy Gregory, married 10 Mar 1849), in household #266. Possible siblings include Jackson Hardin, age 16, living in household #107 with the family of John Cassity and Elizabeth Brown, Amanda Hardin, age 19, living in household #256 with the family of Jameson Gregory and Henrietta Jones, and John Hardin, age 24, living in household #276 with Thomas Cassity and Amanda Smith.

One possibility is that the Samuel with wife Dicy is the same one who married Patsy Brown in 1825, and that Samuel’s children by his first wife were raised in other families after she died.
Notes for Mary J. Brown
The 1878 death report for Morgan Co. has the following two entries listed on consecutive lines:

Mary J. Hardin, 37, married, occupation keeping house, died 8 Aug 1878, parents Reuben & Elizabeth Caskey.
Mary Hardin, 25, married, occupation sewing, died 30 May 1878, parent Amanda Brown

The age at death fits better with the first record, but the census records are fairly strong that Isaac’s wife was the daughter of Amanda Brown. These reports were compiled in January for all births in the preceding year, by collating reports from doctors and midwives, and it is probable that the clerk switched the order of the parent entries for the two Mary Hardins. Whether the date of death fields were also switched is unknown.

I cannot find any 1850, 1860 or 1870 census entries for a Reuben Caskey and/or Elizabeth Caskey of the appropriate generation to see if they had a daughter Mary and if so, what age she was listed as. There was a Reuben & Elizabeth Cassity family, though.

Morgan Co marriage records list the marriage on 23 Dec 1858 of Newton Hardin, age 22, born Morgan Co., and Mary Brown, age 17, born Morgan Co., witnesses P. H. Dyer and W. Hardin, by Russell Tutt.
