Notes for Davis E. & Louisa (Family)
Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 1, p. 96, records the marriage on 14 Oct 1886 of Davis E. Turner and Lue Crosthwaite, consent from Mrs. Ann Crosthwaite, bond surety by S. B. Goodan, at Morehead by L. R. Lame, witnesses Hiram Pigman, Hiram Bradley, and Eli Bradley.

There were two Lou Crosthwait(e)’s in Rowan Co., first cousins, one born in March 1859, daughter of Aaron Crosthwait and Frances Piersall, and the other born in Dec 1869, daughter of Owen Crosthwaite and Mary Donahue. Neither Frances nor Mary was ever entered into any census as “Ann” with her husband, nor with her parents as a child. But Mary Donahue Crosthwait appears in the 1910 census as a mother-in-law Anna Crosthwaite and her daughter Lou who was married at that time to Alex Bradley. Further evidence that it was the younger Lou Crosthwait who married Davis Turner is that the older one would have been 27 in Oct 1886, not requiring parental consent, and both of her parents were still living in 1900. Consent from a mother nearly always means that the father was deceased.

This marriage apparently ended in divorce, because in 1899 Lou Crosthwaite remarried to Alex Bradley, using her maiden name, and in 1905 Davis Turner remarried to Nan Gullet . Since Davis and Lou married after 1880 and separated before 1900, they do not appear in any census togother.
