Notes for John Cyrus “Si” Perry
He usually spelled his middle name as Syrus, but I’m using the more standard spelling, which is on his death certificate.

His death certificate records John Cyrus Perry, age 81 years 3 months 26 days, born 9 May 1870 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 5 Sep 1951 in ambulance, Morehead, Rowan Co., Ky, residence Blairs Mills, Morgan Co., Ky, married, farmer, father A. W. Perry, mother’s maiden name Sarah Jones, cause of death diabetic coma, informant Mary Bell Perry, burial in Hargis Cemetery.

Hargis was apparently one of the cemeteries whose graves were moved to New Alfrey Cemetery to make room for Cave Run Lake, because that’s where his stone is now.

According to a step-grandson of his daughter Bessie Mae, this John Cyrus Perry is the “Si Perry” who shot and killed Noah Hoskins (1893-1939) and his 12 year old son Oscar on 26 Sep 1939 in Craney, Ky, see their notes for details. He must have got off, perhaps on grounds of self-defense, because he was still living at home in the 1940 census.
Notes for Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Cassity
Dates are from her stone in New Alfrey Cemetery next to John, with her name given as Mary M. Perry.
Notes for John Cyrus “Si” & Mary Magdalene “Maggie” (Family)
Rowan Co. marriage license book 2, p. 64, records bond issued 25 Sep 1890 to John C. Perry, consent from A. W. Perry, and Maggie Cassity, consent for her daughter from Bethany Cassity, surety by Pentleton Cassity. Minister’s register book A, p. 46, records the marriage as having taken place 14 Sep 1890. Since the bond always comes before the marriage, at least one of these dates must be wrong.
