Notes for James Anderson Clark
This James Clark, so far as I can tell, is not related to my Clark lines. But I want to keep track of any of their male line descendants who stayed in the Rowan Co. area, so that I can avoid confusing them with my Clark relatives.

His death certificate states James Anderson Clark, died 29 Mar 1913 in Rowan Co., age 68, married, born 1845 in Nashville, Tennessee, parents born Tennessee, names unknown, occupation painter, cause of death hemiplegia, had tumor near stomach for two years, attending physician A. L. Blair, burial Pine Hill cemetery. The informant field is blank.

The place of birth is probably incorrect. All the censuses list him as born in Kentucky.
Notes for Rosa Pigman
Letcher Co. birth records as transcribed by Marv Hall list the birth of Rosie Pigman on April 18, 1855 to Umphrey Pigman and Elizabeth Cornett.

Her death certificate states Rosa Clark, age 80 years, 5 mos, 23 days, died 11 Oct 1934 in Morehead, Rowan Co., widowed, wife of Jas. A. Clark, born April 18, 1854 in Letcher Co., Ky, father Humphrey Pigman, mother’s maiden name Elizabeth Cornett, both born Letcher Co., cause of death arteriosclerosis, informant C. O. Leach, Morehead, burial in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Her gravestone as surveyed by the Rowan Co. Historical Society says that she was born 18 Apr 1865, but that is not consistent with her birth or death records nor with any of the censuses, which list her as 4 in 1860, 15 in 1870, 25 in 1880, 45 in 1900, and 54 in 1910. Either the stone has the wrong date, or the Historical Society surveyed it wrong (most likely the latter.
Notes for James Anderson & Rosa (Family)
There is a family group picture in the Pictorial History of Rowan County which shows children names as Loulie, Lee, Maude and Stoner. Stoner looks about 3, Maude about 9, Lee about 12 and Loulie about 14.
Census
1880 census of Rowan Co., Morehead precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 2 as family #21:
Clark, Jas A., 35, painter; Rosa, 25, wife; Louisa, 4, dau; Walter L., 1, son. All born in Kentucky.
Rosa’s parents Humphey and Elizabeth Pigman are on the same page at household #25.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 29 June, lists on p. 23A as family #433:
Clarke, James, farmer, 55, b. Apr 1845; Rosie, wife, 45, b. Mar 1855, married 26 years, mother of 4 children, 9 living; Lee, son, 22, b. July 1877; Maud, dau, 18, b. Apr 1882; Stoner, son 13, b. Aug 1886; Lena, dau, 9, b. Feb 1891, Clide, son, 9, b. Feb 1891. All born Ky Ky Ky. (Clide should really be a daughter and Lena a son. I don’t know how to reconcile the number of children list. I’d guess that maybe the numbers 4 and 9 were switched, or that both should be 4 or both should be 9, except that there were 5 children in the household in this year, and in the 1910 census she was listed as having only 8 children.)

1910 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 2 May, lists on p. 11B as family #197/199:
Clark, James, house painter, 56; Rosa, wife, 54, first marriage, married 33 years, mother of 8 children, 6 living; Walter L., son, 28; Maude, dau, 25; Stoner, son, 21; Lennie, dau, 17; Clydie, dau, 17. James is listed as born Ky Tennessee unknown, all others as born Ky Ky Ky.
