Notes for George W. Hall
This George Hall is not related to me at all. He is entered into my database only to help distinguish his descendants from those of my great-grandfather, who was also named George W. Hall.

His death certificate states George W. Hall, age 95 years, 5 mos, 9 days, died 1 Jan 1948 in Rowan Co., Ky, born 22 July 1852 in Pike Co., Ky, widowed, wife Alice Hall, father Richard Hall, mother Sally Hall, both born in Virginia, informant Allard Hall.

His obituary in the Rowan County News of Jan 8, 1948, read “Funeral services for G. W. Hall, 95, who died Thursday, Jan. 1, were held Friday at the Cranston Baptist Church. Services were conducted by Rev. Floyd Hall and Rev. Abel Tackett with burial in the Cranston Cemetery. Pall bearers were his grandsons. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hall, he was born in Pike County on July 22, 1852. In 1870 he married Elizabeth Tackett. To this union were born six children, four of whom preceded him in death. Living children by this marriage are Wilburn Hall of Morehead and Frank Hall, Olive Hill. In 1880 Elizabeth Hall died and in 1882 he was married to Alice Osborn Branham. To this last marriage were born five sons and two daughters, Allard Hall, Morehead, Alney Hall, Ramage, W. Va., Hatler Hall, Pine Ridge, Bernie Hall, Fanny Mullins and Minnie Hall of Los Angeles, California, and Dennis Hall, Shelby, Ohio. Also surviving are 44 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. The Lane Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.”

They seem to have interpreted the “number of years married” question to mean the number of years each has been married in total, rather than the number of years in this marriage. The surname Hall should have been repeated for Alard, and hence all their joint children, but wasn’t.
