Notes for John Allen Ramey
There are two death certificates filed for him.

The first (Vol. 37, certificate #2704, filed 1/28/35) records J. A. Ramey, age 86 years 1 month 23 days, born 5 Dec 1849 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 28 Jan 1935 in McKenzie precinct, Rowan Co., Ky, residence Cogswell, married, farmer, father Harrison Ramey, born in Ky, mother’s maiden name blank, born in Ky, cause of death no doctor, thought to be heart failure, informant Harrison Ramey, Clearfield, burial info blank.

The second (Vol. 37, certificate #2711, filing date blank) records John Ramey, age 88, died 28 Jan 1935 in McKinzie precinct, Rowan Co., Ky, born 1847 in Ky, widowed, occupation “once a farmer”, father Harrison Ramey born Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Hellen Ramey born Rowan Co. Ky, cause of death old age, informant Mary Cornette, Bangor, Ky, burial Ramey Cemetery.

“Hellen” is probably a mistaken assumption on the source of the nickname “Haley”. It is also possible that the informant has confused John’s wife’s name with his mothers. The informant would be Mary D. Welch, wife of William T. Cornette, so she was not a relative.
Notes for Elizabeth Helen Myers
Her son Grover’s marriage license says that she was born in Rowan Co., but there is no Myers family with a daughter Elizabeth or Helen in the 1860 census of Rowan Co. (Since Rowan Co. was not existent in 1851, she could not have really been born in the county, but usually an entry like that means the person was born in what later became that county.)

Her death certificate records Helan Ramey, age 65, born 1856, married, father Anderson Myers, born in Ky, mother’s maiden name is not known, cause of death interstitial nephritis, informant A. J. McKenzie, Cogswell, Ky, burial in Ramey, Ky.

The only Anderson Myers in the area was the one in Bath Co. who married Alcy Kirkpatrick and moved to Douglas Co., Illinois. There is no daughter named Helen, Ellen, Elizabeth, Lizzie or any variation thereof listed with that family in the 1860 (or 1850) census. So the informant probably has her father’s name wrong, which is not surprising since he is not a direct relative and didn’t even offer a mother’s name. But I am attaching her in that family as a tentative link for now. At least it makes it easier to navigate to their census notes.
Notes for John Allen & Elizabeth Helen (Family)
There is no marriage record for them in Morgan Co., so they were probably married in Rowan Co. (Morgan County marriage records are very complete, but Rowan County are not.)

The approximate date of marriage is based on the 1900 census, which states they had been married 31 years.

This family may be related to me through the Myers line, but I do not know the connection (if any.) It is also probable that John’s mother Mahala Jones was a daughter of William Jones and Sarah Mauzy.
Census
1870 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pearce precinct, enumerated 21 June, lists on p. 15 as family #105:
Raimey, John, 22; Helen, 18. Both born in Kentucky.

The preceding household is headed by John’s father and stepmother.

1880 census of Rowan Co. Pearce precinct, p. 21, enumerated 1 June, lists as household #165/184:
Ramey, Milton, 38, farm laborer, divorced; Ramey, John, 30, farmer; Elizabeth, wife, 26; George A., son, 9; William A., son, 7; Magnolia, dau, 5; Mary L., dau, 2.

The preceding household is that of Harrison Ramey Jr. with wife Rebecca.

No relationship is given for either Milton or John, as if they were both head of households, but the dwelling/family numbers are only on the line for Milton. Technically I believe the family number should have been bumped for John but not the dwelling number. Either that or he should have been listed as head-of-household and Milton listed below with a relationship.
