Notes for Deborah Pearce
Dates of birth and death are from her gravestone, which records her name as Deborah Utterback. She was first buried in Paragon, and relocated to the New Alfrey Cemetery when Cave Run Dam was built.

1860 census of Rowan Co. lists as family #45:
Utterback, Deborah, 39, farmer; W. W., 18, serving, James M., 15; Winfield Scott, 12; Martha A., 10; Minerva, 8; Joseph, 5; Mary, 1. All born in Kentucky. (Since Deborah’s husband died in 1854, Mary cannot be a full sister of the other children. She is probably a daughter of Robert Shouse whom Deborah was listed with in 1880.)

1870 census of Rowan Co., Pearce precinct, p. 124A, records as family #34:
Shouse, Robert, 52, farmer; Deborah, 50; Martha, 19; Elizabeth, 17; Joseph, 15; Mary, 12. All born in Ky.
(Although the children are listed as Shouse, all of them except Mary are children of Deborah and her first husband Joseph Utterback.)

1880 census of Rowan Co., Pearce precinct, lists as family #217:
Utterback, Deborah, 59, keeping house, Ky Va Ky; Martha, 29, dau, Ky Ky Ky.
Notes for Robert & Deborah (Family)
It may be that Robert and Deborah either never married, or were divorced, since in 1880 she was again listed as Deborah Utterback, and she is also buried under that name.
