Her death certificate records Alpha Elizabeth Bradley, age 72 years 2 months 4 days, born 15 Oct 1868 in Elliott Co., Ky, died 19 Dec 1940 in Muses Mill, Fleming Co., Ky, widow of Wesley Bradley, father Henderson Whisman, born in Virginia, mother’s maiden name De Riyanna Fannin, born in Elliott Co., Ky, cause of death pneumonia follow by sudden heart failure, informant Mary B. Creamer, Muses Mills, burial in Waltz, Ky.

Rowan Co. marriage register A, p. 88, lists the marriage of G. W. Bradley and Alpha Whisman on 12 Feb 1895.

Although Alpha is recorded under her maiden name, the presence of two Burton stepchildren aged 9 and 7 in the 1900 census indicates that this is her second marriage.

1900 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Pine Grove precinct, enumerated 2 June, lists on p. 1B as family #13:
Bradley, G. W., 46, b. Jan 1854, married 26 years; Elizabeth, wife, 33, b. Oct 1866, married 16 years, mother of 5 children, 5 living; George, son, 18, b. March 1882; Manford, son, 16, b. June 1883; Amos, son, 14, b. March 1886; Hensley, son, 3, b. Oct 1896; Thomas J., son, 2/12, b. March 1900; Burton, Jas M., stepson, 9, b. May 1891; Chas C., stepson, 7, b. March 1893. All born Ky Ky Ky.

The number of years married has apparently been misinterpreted by both of them as the number of years since their first marriage, rather than the number of years in the present marriage.

Note that there are only four children of Alpha Elizabeth listed here - Hensley and Thomas Bradley, and James and Charles Burton. Since her first marriage was reportedly about 16 years previous, most likely her first child was a daughter who was already married.

All born in Kentucky.

Geneva Sexton, nee Bradley, is a daughter of George and his first wife, Emily Carpenter.
