Notes for Gustavus Kegley
He was also known as Augustus and Gus Davis, the former apparently a case of misinterpreting “Gus” as a nickname for Augustus, and the latter probably a phonetic way of spelling Gus-tavus as two words, rather than a true middle name.

His birthdate is very approximate: he was listed in the censuses as 7 in 1850, 15 in 1860, 33 in 1880, and 43 born Feb 1847 in 1900. (I cannot find him in 1870.) His gravestone also lists his birthdate as Feb 3, 1847. But judging by the childhood census records, it was probably really 1843 to 1845. (It would be unusual to list a 3 year old child as 7.)

The J. W. Kegley Diary has a 1905 entry “Augustus Kegley, s/o Abraham Kegley & brother to my grandfather Joel Kegley died July 15th.”
Census
In the 1880 census Gustavus is listed as age 33, cousin, with the family of J. H. Leedy age 29. J. H. Leedy’s father was presumably a brother of Gustavus’s mother, Rachel Leedy.
