Notes for Thomas Jefferson Hawkins
His death certificate records Thomas J. Hawkins, age 54 years 4 months 6 days, born 1 Mar 1860 in Ky, died 7 July 1914 in Salt Lick, Bath Co., Ky, married, father John Hawkins, mother’s maiden name Delila White, both born in Ky, cause of death “Mr. Hawkins was well & talking to his wife at about 4:30 am she got breakfast called him at 5:00 am & found him dead”, informant Mrs. Malvina Hawkins, Salt Lick, Ky, burial in Indian Creek graveyard.

Do not confuse him with Thomas Hawkins born ca 1857 in Bath Co, son of Alfred Hawkins and Mary E. Shrout, who died 9 Mar 1921 in Bath Co, or with Thomas J. Hawkins born 13 May 1853 in Bath Co, son of Alpheus Hawkins and Nancy Davis, who moved from Bath Co to Missouri in the 1880’s, or with Thomas J. Hawkins born ca 1862 in Bath Co, son of James Monroe Hawkins and Mary Jane Crews. Many family trees on Ancestry.com make one or more of these conflations, probably due to indiscriminate acceptance of the Ancestry “suggested records”. Since the family of John Hawkins and Delia White was in Fleming Co., Kentucky in 1850, not recorded in 1860, and in Indiana in 1870 and 1880, the correct census records do not get suggested for a Bath County search. But the above death certificate is clear proof that the Thomas J. Hawkins who married Melvina White was the son of John and Delia - Melvina would know her own husband’s parents.
Notes for Melvina White
Her death certificate records Malvina Harper, age 81 years 8 months 2 days, born 17 July 1859 in Kentucky, died 19 March 1941 in Salt Lick, Bath Co., Ky, widowed, father Nathan White, mother’s maiden name Jane McGlothin, cause of acute dilation of heart, informant Pete Hawkins, Salt Lick, Ky, burial in Indian Creek Cemetery, Salt Lick, Ky.
Notes for Thomas Jefferson & Melvina (Family)
It is probable that Thomas and Melvina were second cousins on the White side - most likely Thomas’s grandfather Joel White and Melvina’s grandfather Nathan White were brothers. But I do not know that for sure.
