Notes for Lafayette “Lee” & Alverta V. (Family)
Many family trees identify the Lafayette Quesenberry who married Alverta Thurman with the one who was the son of William C. Quesenberry and Eva Jane Slusher. I think it is more likely that he was the one who was the son of Amos Quesenberry and Paulina Phillips. (Both were recorded as age 5 in the 1880 census.)

My reasons include:

1. The William Quesenberry family lived in Willis, Floyd Co., VA while the Amos Quesenberry family lived in Dugspur, Carroll Co., VA, where the Ezra Turman family lived.

2. Floyd Co. birth records list the birth date of William and Eva’s son as 14 Apr 1875, while the records for Alverta’s husband (draft card, gravestone, etc.) are consistent that he was born 7 Apr 1875.

3. William and Eva had moved to Arizona by the beginning of 1898, probably several years before that. It is possible that their son Lafayette remained behind in Virginia, but it is more likely that he went with them, since all their other unmarried children did.

4. The 1880 census spells the name of Amos and Paulina’s son as Lee Fayett, which is the same way Alverta’s husband’s name is spelled in the 1900 census (and in 1930 as Lee F.). William and Eva’s son’s name was spelled the standard way in 1880, as Lafayette.

An obituary might help resolve this issue.
