His obituary in the Dayton Daily News reported:

PETITT, Lenvil Ray 1935-2008, of Port St. Lucie Florida passed away Monday, January 21, 2008 at his residence. He was born December 7, 1935 in Blaze Kentucky, the son of James and Icy Pettit. He was a retired plastering contractor in south Florida for many years. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge #163 of Waynesville Ohio and a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite at the Valley of Dayton. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Icy Pettit; brothers Chester and Elbert Pettit; and son Lenvil James Pettit all of Fairborn Ohio; mother and father-in-law Mary and Harold Fields of Dayton Ohio.

He is survived by his loving wife Kathy Pettit of Florida; devoted children Terry and special daughter-in-law Janet Pettit of Xenia Ohio, Bradley Pettit; Thersia (Jeff) Calvert of Fairborn Ohio, Rhonda (Steve) Ritchie of New Carlisle Ohio, Angela Martin of Dayton Ohio, and Shannon Bender of Florida; brothers Charlie (Carrie) Pettit of Florida, Harold (Margaret) Pettit, and Eugene Pettit all of Fairborn Ohio; sisters Goldie (Henry) Crace of Fairborn Ohio, Eula (Junior) Baldridge of Kentucky; Brother-in-law Jimmy Fields and sisters-in-law Debbie (Donnie) Howell, Kelly (Kelly) Bechler, Terri and Danessa Fields all of Dayton Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren; and numerous other relatives, friends, and loved ones.

The family will receive friends on Saturday February 2, 2008 from 1:00pm-2:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home Beavercreek Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, officiating Pastor Zke Grigsby. Interment will follow at Byron Cemetery, Bath Twp.
