Notes for Jesse Link
His WW I draft registration card, filed 5 June 1917, records Jess Link, age 27, born 12 March 1890 in Blaze, Morgan Co., Ky, residence same, occupation working on mill, employer American Column & Lumber Co., Stark, Boone Co., W. Va., married supporting a wife.

His death certificate records Jesse Link, age 40 years 1 month 29 days, born Mar 1•, 1890 in Morgan Co., married, husband of Minnie Link, died May 1•, 1930 in Blaze, Morgan Co., Ky, father Robert Link, mother’s maiden name Lucy Hawkins, cause of death homicide, shot on May 13, 1930, informant Minnie Link, Craney, Ky, burial in Link Cemetery, May 16, 1930.

The handwriting on the dates of birth and death is very cramped. The birthdate could be either 12 or 16. It looks most like 12, which agrees with the date from the draft registration, but adding the age at death to that would imply a death date of May 10, which is before he was shot! The second digit on the date of death is a solid blot. Ancestry has indexed it as May 10, perhaps based on interpreting the birthdate as March 12 and adding the age at death. (The date he was shot and the burial date are both clearly legible.) It would be good to find a newspaper article for verification, and for information about the shooting.
Notes for Minnie E. Stamper
Minnie’s mother died when she was an infant, and she was raised by John B. Hardin and Martha (Perry) Hardin, with whom she was recorded in the 1900 census as a niece, age 9. Martha was a sister of Minnie’s mother Mary Perry. Her father, Carter Stamper, was still living in 1900, listed with his second wife Clarinda McClurg.

Be careful not to confuse this Minnie with her double first cousin, Minnie B. Stamper born June 1890, daughter of James Stamper and Hulda Perry, who was listed with her parents in 1900.
