The 1900 census gave his birthdate as Dec 1844, but he was listed as age 9 in the 1850 census, with younger siblings Malinda age 7, Andrew age 6, and Willis age 2, so that birthdate must be wrong.

I cannot find her in the 1850 or 1860 censuses. (She is the same age as Mary Jane Purvis, daughter of John Purvis and Margaret Proctor, who was listed as Jane age 12 in the 1850 census, but their daughter married Francis Marion Purvis in Rowan Co. about 1859, and was still married to him when he died in 1911.)

The older children linked into this family may really be from an earlier marriage.

McCarty, Jno, 30, farmer; Jane, 32; Jno 10; Thomas, 8; Madison, 3; Amanda J., 1. All born in Kentucky.
