Notes for Samuel Floyd Royse
His WW I draft registration card, filed 5 June 1917 in Lewis Co., Ky, records Sam Royse, age 29, residence Fitch, Ky, born 25 Feb 1888 in Minor, Ky, occupation shoe worker, employer Seltzer Shoe Co., Portsmouth, Ohio, married supporting a wife.

His WW II draft registration card, filed 20 May 1942, records Samuel Floyd Royse, age 54, born 25 Feb 1888 in Louisville, Kentucky, residence 610 W. 11th St., Muncie, Delaware Co., Indiana, employer Hirde Douche Paper Co., nearest relative Mrs. Mary Royse, wife.

His obituary in the Knightstown, Indiana Banner of Friday, Dec. 17, 1948 reported:

“DEATH OCCURS AT INDIANAPOLIS HOSPITAL------ Samuel F. Royse, a resident of Carthage for many years, died Monday morning at 6:15 at the Ft. Benjamin Harrison hospital at Indianapolis, from lobar pneumonia and complications. He had been in failing health for several months. The deceased, a former paper mill worker here and at other places, was born February 25, 1888, in Kentucky, a son of John and Alice Royse. He was married June 18, 1918 to Miss Mary McClurg. He was a member of the Carthage American Legion post. Surviving him are the widow; a foster-daughter, Mrs. Dwight McCormick, of near Connersville; and one brother, John Royse of Morrow, Ohio. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Thompson Funeral Home here, in charge of Rev. DeWitt Foster, Friends minister, and the burial was in Carthage cemetery, north of here.”

I cannot find Samuel or his parents or brother in the 1900 census. His father was probably either the John Royse who was the son of Moses Royse and Lydia Day, or the John Royse who was the son of William Royse and Georgia Ann Riddle, but I cannot find any records to identify which is the case.
