His obituary in the Anderson Daily Bulletin of Tuesday, 21 Nov 1961, reported

Henry P. Pettit, 93, 1308 W. 6th St., died at 4 a.m. Sunday at the King’s Home, 834 W. 8th St., after an illness of six months.

Mr. Pettit was born Oct. 7, 1868, in Stamping Ground, Ky, and was the son of Charles G. and Mary Pettit. He had resided in Anderson for 70 years, coming here from Stamping Ground in 1891.

Mr. Pettit was a retired farmer and at one time was owner of the former Broadview Dairy west of Anderson. He was a member of the Central Christian Church.

His father and several brothers served in the Civil War. [This would mean his father’s brothers, not Henry’s brothers.]

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Hazel Mae (William E.) Freestone, Anderson; two grandchildren, Mrs. Phyllis Cristman, Muncie, and Eddie Freeston, Anderson; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clint Pettit, Gas City, and Sam Pettit, Kokomo; three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Rodgers, Georgetown, Ky, and Mrs. Letha Stanbaugh and Mrs. Mary Babcock, both of Toledo, Ohio, and several nephews and nieces.

Friends will be received after 7 p.m. today at the Brown and Butz Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Monroe G. Schuster, pastor of the Central Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the East Maplewood Cemtery.
