His given name is also spelled Bufford, Barefort, Barefoot, and other variations. Many online family trees record his full name as James Barford Goodpaster, but I can find no primary records that have the forename James. I suspect it may be a matter of confusing some records for the James Goodpaster b. ca 1808 who was the father of Larkin Goodpaster, and whose wife was also named Margaret.
