Notes for Joseph Myers
His death certificate records Joseph Myers, age 74 years 2 months 13 days, born 9 June 1840 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 24 Aug 1914 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, married, father James Myers, born in Rowan Co., Ky, maiden name of mother Carrie Johnson, born in Ky, cause of death mitral regustation, informant Willie Anderson, Wyoming, Bath Co., Ky, burial in Owingsville Cemetery.

Rowan Co. did not exist until 1856; the birthplace probably indicates a part of Fleming or Morgan county that later became part of Rowan Co.

This death certificate is judged to be for the Joseph Myers who married Mary D. Evans because (a) in the 1900 census of Fleming Co., that Joseph’s birthdate was given as June 1840, and (b) he was listed with Mary in the 1910 census of Bath Co. In the 1850 census, though, that Joseph was living with Samuel Myers, not James Myers, as an apparent son. Since the 1850 census does not give relationships, it is possible that the children living with Samuel were not his own, but it is uncommon for a man with no wife to raise a relative’s children. Far more likely is that the informant, Willie Anderson, did not know the correct name of Joseph’s father. That also, however, raises doubt as to his knowledge of the maiden name of Joseph’s mother, who died long before Samuel did.
Notes for Mary D. Evans
Her death certificate records Mary D. Myers, age 78 years 8 months 23 days, born 4 April 1846 in Ky, died 27 Dec 1924 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, widowed, father Rollie Evans, mother’s maiden name Martha Pierce, both born in Ky, cause of death pernicious anemia, informant Mrs. Oscar Conyers, Owingsville, Ky, burial in Owingsville Cemetery.
