The J. W. Kegley diary contains an entry in the 1938 section that says “Gorgon Kegley, Austin’s son, died Tues Jan 24 at King’s Daughter Hosp. Ashland, Ky from an operation for goiter, age 51 yrs, 9 mos, 11 days.”

There are three death certificates filed for him, one in Boyd Co. and two in Elliott Co.

The first one records Gordon Kegley, age 52 years 9 months 10 days, born 15 April 1885 in Elliott Co., Ky, died 25 Jan 1938 at Kings Daughters Hospital, Ashland, Boyd Co., Ky, usual residence Olive Hill, Ky, married, husband of Mrs. Lucie Kegley, farmer, father O. Kegley, mother’s maiden name Elizabeth McMillian, both born in Ky, cause of death acute dilation of heart, contributory cause toxic goiter (toxic adenoma), operation left lobectomy, Jan 22, medical certification signed by M. D. Garrard, Ashland, Ky, informant illegible (looks like Leslie Davidsong, 1204 N. Center Julet, clla), burial in family cemetery, Gimlet, Ky.

The second one records Albert Gordon Kegley, age 52 years 1 month (probably the loop of the 9 was too faint to image) 11 days, born 14 April 1885 in Elliott Co., Ky, died 25 Jan 1938 in Gimlet, Elliott Co., Ky, residence same, farmer, married, husband of Lucy Kegley, father Austin Kegley, born in Wythe Co., Va, mother’s maiden name Elizabeth McMillian, born in Elliott Co., cause of death acute dilatation of heart, contributory cause toxic goiter (toxic adenoma), name of operation enucliation of adenoma on Jan 22, medical certification signed by M. D. Garrard, Ashland, Ky, informant Lucy Kegley, Gimlet, Ky, burial in Cox Cemetery.

The third one is stamped delayed, and records Gordon Kegley, age 52 years 9 months 11 days, born 14 Apr 1885 in Elliott Co., Ky, died 25 Jan 1938 in rural Elliott Co., Ky, usual residence Sinking, Elliott Co., Ky, married, husband of Lucy Kegley age 35, farmer, father Austin Kegley, mother’s maiden name Bettie McMillan, both born in Elliott Co., Ky, cause of death strock following operation for goiter type not known, medicat signature D. T. Hawk, Sandy Hook, Ky, informant Lucy Kegley, Gimlet, Ky, burial in Cox Cemetery.
Notes for Liza “Lizzie” Cox
The first entry for 1929 in the J. W. Kegley diary is “Liz Kegley w/o Gordon Kegley (Aus’ son) died Jan 1.”

I cannot find her in the Kentucky death records.
