In the 1870 census, he is recorded as “Berdine”, age 7. But his gravestone also has his middle initial as D. Perhaps they shortened Berdine to Dine or Dean.

The entire line for Maudie is crossed out, with a marginal note that is very difficult to read, but seems to be directing to a different entry, possibly Line 5, sheet 15 or sheet 10.
