Although it states he was single, he was really married three times, with at least the last two marriages ending in divorce.

There is no surname entered for Alexander, just the line used to represent “ditto”, but in this case it should mean “same as head of household”, not “same as line above”. The surname of Black was explicitly entered for all the stepchildren.
