The Kentucky birth index lists Vada Slone, born 15 Aug 1916 in Breathitt Co. (a misindexing of Rowan11), mother’s maiden name Susan Fraley.

Her obituary in the Morehead News reported “Mrs. Vada Sloan Lowe, Age 93 of Mt. Sterling, formerly of Morehead, passed away Wednesday morning June 23, 2010 in the St. Joseph Hospital, Mt. Sterling after a brief illness.

    She was born in Rowan County, Kentucky on August 15, 1916 to the late Woodrow and Susie Fraley Sloan.

    Mrs. Lowe was retired from Morehead State University where she was a cook in the cafeteria. She was a member of the Brinegar Church of God and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed working in her flowers and especially raising tomatoes and vegetables.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Luther Lowe who died June 23, 1987, one brother, Buddy Sloan and three sisters, Bertha Kiser, Myrtle Clark and Annie Sloan. Also, a granddaughter Jeanetta Lewis and a great-grandson, Christopher Lewis.

    Survivors include her daughter Shirley Lewis of Mt. Sterling. Four Grandchildren, Bernetta Gustivson of Mooresville, North Carolina, Lisa Barker, Carla Lewis and Jacob Lewis all of Mt. Sterling. Four great-grandchildren, Samantha Combess, Bradley Worch, Zachary Ross and Shelby Ross.

    Three brothers, Oscar Sloan and Tommy Sloan of Olive Hill, and Bill Sloan of Belleville, Michigan. One sister Ollie Sparks of Morehead.

    Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 26, 2010 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating.

    Burial will follow in the Fraley Cemetery at Elliottville.    

Visitation at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is after 6:00 P.M. Thursday and anytime Friday.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Sloan, Dave Sloan, Zachary Sloan, Lawrence Pennington, Johnny Markwell and Mike Gray.”
